Understood :) Our current plans with A3 is to try and only offer one
Dictionary per language (not counting specialised Dictionaries like
Technical or Italian Medical) with no "add-ons".
As an Aussie, I would argue that modern Australian English (and modern
British English) accept most of the American spellings - so in many ways
American English is becoming a subset of Australian and British English. My
eldest son at School is being taught "-ize" endings for most words, whereas
I was taught they were "-ise"... The Macquaire Dictionary (official
Australian Dictionary) lists endings as acceptable - except for "newer"
words where only the "-ize" ending is acceptable...
The way around this for us purists (e.g. I will always spell "colour" with
the "u" except when programmming) is to accept both spellings and then add
Autocorrect :)
Thus, shipping the American English Dictionary and making available for
download (or putting the lot on CD) is the better way to go I believe. It is
what I'll be doing with my Shareware applications when I get time to update
them (too much ESBPCS, Addict & local client work to keep me busy). For my
local clients, I have always just supplied the Aussie Dictionary - but with
A3 I'll probably supply Aussie & Technical...
