| Whilst we have endeavoured to supply dictionaries that are
accurate, we give no guarantees to their accuracy and quality. We very
much appreciate any and all feedback about the dictionaries Please also
let us know if we are mistaken the "status" or
"ownership" of any of the Dictionaries.
Where Word Lists are available (to Registered Users Only) please do not create Dictionaries with
the same name as the ones present here, as this could lead to confusion.
Submit corrections and suggested improvements to us and we will issue a
new version.
Big Dictionaries are not necessarily good for Spell Checkers - the
ideal situation is to have as many of the words as the user is likely to
encounter.
Note: All sizes supplied are for the associated ZIP file
(compressed) and not for the Dictionary itself.

A brief commentary on dictionaries
Large dictionaries are not always necessarily good for spell checkers.
The ideal dictionary will have the largest cross-section of words that are
actually used in everyday documents but will be very sparse with
infrequently used words. Why is this? The answer is simple. The more
uncommon words that the dictionary has in it, the better the chances that
the user will misspell a word, but the misspelling will end up as a
properly spelled word. Thus the spell checker would believe the word to be
spelled correctly even though the user quite possibly had never even heard
of the word before.
(*) Wordlists are only available
for those dictionaries that are marked accordingly above. To obtain one of
the above wordlists (registered users only), please contact Addict
Support. We kindly ask that you submit corrections and suggested
improvements to Addictive Software so that we may issue a new version of
the dictionary, as opposed to creating your own copy of one of the above
dictionaries. If you do choose to create your own copy, please do not
create it with the same "title" as the ones presented here as
this will only lead to confusion for our end users. |
